SNMP Trap Setup

SNMP Trap can be sent to the SNMP Manager (monitoring server) when an event occurs in the ETERNUS DX. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a standard protocol used for network management.

Important

Carefully read this manual and the manuals for the monitoring software (SNMP Manager) that is to be used before monitoring the ETERNUS DX.

When SNMP Manager exists in a different subnetwork from the storage system, specify the IP address or the network address of SNMP Manager in "Allowable IP Address" of the [Setup Network Environment] function.

To set up the network environment, refer to "Operating Procedures" in "Setup Network Environment" of "Web GUI User's Guide".

By using the [Initial Setup] function, the SNMP Agent environment can be configured with the wizard. When the [Initial Setup] function is not used, configure the SNMP Agent environment in the following order before sending an SNMP trap:

  1. Setup SNMP Agent Basic Interface

This function sets up the SNMP Agent basic interface in the storage system.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Agent Basic Interface" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

  2. Setup SNMP Manager

This function specifies the IP address of the SNMP Manager.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Manager" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

  3. Setup SNMP Agent MIB Access View

Set the MIB View of the SNMP Agent.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Agent MIB Access View" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

  4. Setup SNMP Agent User

This function sets up the user which accesses the SNMP Agent.

The security level and the MIB access range are configured for each user.

This setting is required to use SNMPv3 for SNMP communication.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Agent User" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

  5. Setup SNMP Agent Community

This function sets up the SNMP Agent Community.

This setting is required to use SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c for SNMP communication.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Agent Community" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

  6. Setup SNMP Agent Trap

This function notifies events that occur in the storage system to the SNMP Manager by an SNMP Trap.

Reference destination: "Operating Procedures" in "Setup SNMP Agent Trap" of "Web GUI User's Guide"

Note

After the SNMP Trap setup is completed, perform an SNMP Trap test. For details, refer to SNMP Trap Test.
