LAN Control (Main CM/Subordinate CM)

This section explains how the LAN control controller of the ETERNUS DX operates.

Among the controllers in the ETERNUS DX, the controller (CM) that is given the authority to manage the LAN is called the Main CM, and the CM that takes over the management when the Main CM fails is called the Subordinate CM.

When an error occurs in the Main CM or LAN, the Main CM is switched automatically.

IP addresses of the LAN ports are not assigned to each CM. These IP addresses are assigned to the role of main or sub. If the Main CM is switched, the same IP addresses are reused. Therefore, even if the Main CM is switched and the physical port is changed, access can be maintained via the same IP addresses. The MAC address is not inherited.

The controller is selected from controllers that are connected to the LAN for operation management in ascending order from the smallest module number (CE#0, CM#0, CE#1, CM#0, CE#0 CM#1, CE#1 CM#1).

Note
  • Each CM has an LED that lights up green to identify when it is the Main CM.

  • Setting the IP address of the Subordinate CM ensures that ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI can be used from the Subordinate CM if an error occurs on the LAN path for the Main CM.

The Main CM and the Subordinate CM perform different functions. The Subordinate CM can only switch the Main CM and display the status of the ETERNUS DX.

The IP address of the Subordinate CM does not need to be set for normal operation.

The controller where the IP address is allocated is called the LAN Main CM, and the LAN Subordinate CM respectively. The following figure shows the LAN controls if CE#0 CM#0 is the LAN Main CM and CE#1 CM#0 is the LAN Subordinate CM.
